Here are some examples. The list of cheap foods goes on forever. My foods always tastes good because I rarely rush to cook a meal. I take my time to make sure that I get every detail as perfect as possible.

Attention to details can make anything including oatmeal taste great. Here is another example. Put your glasses in the freezer about an hour before super. At the last minute put refrigerated water in the glasses and serve. I get lots of compliments from my family because I make water seem special with white frost on the glass.

This is plain ordinary tap water. That is great idea with the water glasses. I am not terribly excited when it is just plain glass of water. Thank you so much! This is fantastic!! And as a base set up for you to go on to feed your family, SPOT ON!! I buy any meat on sale..

This is definitely a way I would add variety. For breakfast, consider cinnamon toast a little butter and some cinnamon. Also, mine like to have yogurt and dip apples in it. To beef up the protein content in this, I use vanilla greek yogurt that I buy by the tub.

This lasts a long time. Lastly, a box of pancake mix and smash bananas up in your pancakes. This makes them include a little something extra and even oatmeal tastes good in these if you have it from your other breakfasts.

I have taught mine to like pancakes without syrup. I cut it up into strips so they eat it with their hands that way. It was something new and different and was an easy transition away from sugary syrup.

Pancake mix will last a long time so if you get a decent, but cheap box you can use it for a few weeks. Lastly, carrots are pretty cheap. I buy the petite ones, a few bags at aldis. I boil them or steam them. My kids still prefer their carrots soft. Your nine month old could probably eat them too.

Mine will eat half a bag if they are soft and I am not watching them. i live in NJ, not sure if the food price is lower here. i think the price of the foods play such a big role in this. i only buy the things that go on sale also or shop at walmart only.

I just wanted to acknowledge this because even with the best meal prep and planning, feeding a household and keeping everything else together is still HARD.

As parents, we often need to roll with the punches. And sometimes I need to remind myself to just breathe and do the best I can. All that was required of me ahead of time was to add a can of adobo chiles, salt, and pepper into my unused chicken from the previous night.

The recipe calls for the chiles to be chopped up before adding them to the chicken. Once I tasted them, I decided to leave them whole so the chicken would pull in the flavor as it marinated — but then I could easily take the chiles out once it came time to cook the chicken.

Shop The Recipe. Once I did, I was really impressed with how close the chicken actually looked to being from one of those restaurants. Then I gave it a taste and gave myself and the recipe author a pat on the back! The next time I make this, I would add a few more toppings.

It wouldn't cost much and would have elevated the meal a little more. I added a side of peaches, and the girls insisted on some Apple Jacks as well. My youngest ate up the remaining scrambled eggs that were extra from the egg pockets. Recipe: Fruit Parfaits I Shop The Recipe.

This recipe appealed to me because it had the BBQ flavors we love in the summer, but with the comfort of a good and flaky crescent roll. Pre-bake, I wondered if some of the filling would ooze out of the cracks or if the bottom of the ring would be soggy at all, but it wasn't!

My son thought the chicken was a little too sweet, so next time I might try a BBQ sauce that leans a bit more savory.

This time, I left out the honey. Like I mentioned before, the graham cracker was sweet enough to balance out the plain cream cheese. It was also less messy of a cleanup, so I was completely on board. One note for feeding spice-adverse eaters, like I am. The recipe calls for 2 table spoons of chili powder.

If I fed my kids anything else spicy this week, they were going to turn into little jalapeños! Recipe: One Pot Chicken Fajita Pasta I Shop the Recipe. After awhile I heard my son yell across the park to his sister that it was time to go so they could eat "cream cheese crackers.

I used a simple white bread for this recipe because I thought it would absorb the moisture of the egg the best. I turned them halfway to make sure each side was golden. I ended up having to make an entire second batch of these because the kids kept coming back for more.

Normally on Saturday, I would prepare for the upcoming week, but because we were traveling, I saved it for Sunday. But despite different needs, I feel that meal planning can help simplify and benefit everyone in some capacity — and I hope that sharing mine here is able to help in some small way.

Food · Posted on Aug 7, by Sydney Martin BuzzFeed Contributor. Sydney Martin. View this photo on Instagram. Prep was simple: quickly chopping and sautéing onions and peppers, and boiling a big pot of water for the shells.

Whenever I make something that calls for bacon inside of it, I put the bacon into my food processor to give it a quick chop. This method makes it easier for my kids to eat without having to try and bite off a large piece with each bite.

These were a HIT. The marinade had a Greek yogurt base and only needed a few extra add-ins: yogurt, lemon juice, olive oil, and spices. Once the marinade was mixed together, I added it into a Ziploc bag with chicken thighs and let everything sit in the fridge. I also had my kitchen helper using a more ~abstract~ technique to assemble the crackers.

Onward to lunch. For the the kids, it was turkey sandwiches again — this time served with strawberries, cucumbers, and hummus. For me, leftover stuffed shells. For plating, my husband and I assembled our bowls and added salsa.

The kids kept theirs basic with some rice and cheese. Some days my kids like granola in their yogurt and other days not. Today we left it out. While the chicken was cooking, I started piecing together the components of the ring.

It was mostly just layering cheese and meat, wrapping everything back up, and then popping it all into the oven. The corn only took 2 minutes to cook once it got to pressure. IP to the rescue!
